Single-Use Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF) System
Optimize UF/DF Workflows with Flexible, Single-Use TFF Technology
In today’s evolving bioprocessing environment, biopharmaceutical manufacturers need flexible, small-footprint systems that can support high-performance ultrafiltration/diafiltration operations with minimal manual intervention. The Wautoma Biotech benchtop tangential flow filtration (TFF) system delivers just that—an efficient, single-use solution for ultrafiltration/diafiltration (UF/DF) operations at development or small production scale.
Designed for ease of use and precise control, the system concentrates protein and biologic solutions while performing buffer exchange through diafiltration, using a traditional TFF flow path. Product is drawn from a single-use bag via a peristaltic feed pump and flows tangentially across the membrane surface. Solvent and low-molecular-weight solutes pass through the membrane and exit via the permeate line, while the concentrated retentate is recirculated for further processing.
A back-pressure control valve ensures a stable transmembrane pressure (TMP), while inline pressure sensors provide real-time performance and safety monitoring. For diafiltration, a second pump introduces buffer into the recirculating stream, enabling precise solute exchange across multiple diavolumes. The system supports batch operations through a recipe manager, allowing users to exert tight control over final concentration and formulation outcomes.
The Single-Use TFF System provides a practical and scalable solution for manufacturers seeking to streamline UF/DF workflows, enhance product recovery, and simplify compliance—all within a compact, benchtop design.
Discover the Benefits of the Benchtop TFF Concentration and UF/DF System
Efficient Concentration and Buffer Exchange
Utilizes a proven TFF approach to concentrate protein and biologic solutions while seamlessly enabling buffer exchange via diafiltration.
Real-time Process Monitoring
Inline pressure and process sensors provide continuous visibility into system performance, enhancing control and operational confidence.
Stable Transmembrane Pressure (TMP)
Back pressure valve ensures a consistent TMP, driving reliable filtration performance across varying operating conditions.
Compact, Benchtop Design
Ideal for process development and small-scale manufacturing, the system offers powerful performance in a compact footprint. The unit comes with built-in trays on load cells for bags or bottles, eliminating the need for benchtop scales and further reducing the footprint. The system supports single-use bags or single-use bottles up to 10 L in size.
Simplified Setup with Single-Use Flow Path
Automated buffer feed enables accurate control over diafiltration volume and solute clearance, supporting reproducible results.
Enhanced Product Recovery
Optimized flow path design and monitoring capabilities help maximize product yield while preserving product quality.
Enhanced Optimization
Maximize product quality and yield—the Wautoma TFF system integrates hybrid model and digital twin technology. Designed not only for product development teams but also for full-scale operational use, the solution enables intelligent, model-driven decision-making throughout the filtration process. The hybrid model predicts the ideal protein concentration to transition between ultrafiltration (UF) and diafiltration (DF), optimizing both buffer usage and processing time. It also enables teams to evaluate trade-offs between product quality, concentration, cost, and time—unlocking the full potential of each filtration unit operation.
